William (Bill) Hewlett was an American engineer and businessman who, along with his partner David Packard, co-founded the Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) in 1939. Their partnership, famously launched in a Palo Alto garage with just $538 in capital, is widely considered the birthplace of Silicon Valley.
