Olavo Neto

Olavo Neto is a brazilian filmmaker, producer, video editor and screenwritter. With a degree in Cinema and Audiovisual from the Federal University of Mato Grosso, he works in audiovisual media since 2019. Olavo gained prominence with "The Untamed Uprising of the Killer Strawberries" (2022), a short film that was screened and awarded internationally. He has primarily worked as a producer, director of photography, and video editor on other film productions, documentaries, and music videos. Also worked for major production companies, public institutions, and also as a freelancer. His films are generally genre stories that feature acerbic humor, colorful and profound characters, auteur cinematography, and original plots. Generally with a low budget and a high audience acceptance through festivals and screenings. Olavo written and directed five short films to date. He debuted with "Chimeric Desire to Belong to Another World" (2020), chosen as "Best Very Short Short Film" at the 19th Latin American University and Independent Audiovisual Exhibition. It was the only film made without public financial resources. Following that, he won "Best Direction" at the 21st CINEMATO with "The Untamed Uprising of the Killer Strawberries" (2022), which also took home the trophy for "Best Mato Grosso Short Film" and "Best Editing," this time at the Moscow Indie Film Festival. In 2024, he presented his graduation conclusion project, the experimental animated short film "Estelar," the result of a research grant. In 2025, he released "Rosimeire´s Baby" a pseudo-documentary, with its premiere screening at the traditional Cine Teatro Cuiabá. The short film won the "Best Independent Short Film" award from the audience jury at the 24th Latin American University and Independent Audiovisual Exhibition, "Best Actress" and "Best Editing" at the Amsterdam New Cinema Film Festival, as well as "Best Soundtrack" at the Guarulhos International Film Festival. Currently, he is finalizing his fifth short film, "Another One Bites the Dust", co-directed with Rodrigo PS Fonseca. Simultaneously, he is searching funds for his first feature film. Olavo also composes the original soudtracks os his films.
